The discovery of biomorphism has really motivated my work recently. I made this digital collage/painting by taking images of my body fat and cutting it up and painting parts of it in. I would really love to transpose this image onto silk, mixing an abjected image of bodily fat and a desirable and sensuous material of silk.
A fluid way of creating art from emotion and its resulting curvilinear aesthetic. The works relating to biomorphism have stayed on the route of investigating the body as well as other key subject areas in the practice. I was really inspired and empowered by the body in ‘The birth of a parasite’, where I exposed my own body, making myself vulnerable to subjection as I was a part of the work. I wanted to look into the folds of the body, especially in this laid down, cradling position. ‘SOFT’ was the first experimental piece made after starting research on biomorphic structures. The image shows sections of body fat rolls blended into a sheet of silk. The silk represents this figment of desire, desire for luxurious, expensive things but also a tug toward something sensuous. In contrast to this desirable material is the printed image of body fat rolls, which in today’s society is commonly unwanted and often discriminated against. Over the next few weeks I plan to screen print this image of body fat onto a big silk sheet, to make this image a more physical piece.
