“SlimFast Bath” - January 2021
Recent play with domestic dietary materials such as slimfast, Pepto Bismol and medication have led to this piece. A woman in a bath, the slimfast bath consuming her body. She is praying that this will take all her fat away, it’s her new home remedy. It’s sickly pink and completely devouring, disgusting and disgraceful and yet it draws us in with its sweet hues and calming nature. Domestic Dieting at its finest.
Made by pouring 3 tubs of Slim Fast into a bathtub. This piece challenges thoughts around the domestic body, rituals within the home that put the body into a shock state. All of this afterwards subsequently washed down the drain and carted off to the unseen systems below our world.
The thick pink texture of this bath really made it repulsive to the body in comparison to its attractive appeal to the eye. It appears to be something popular that you might see in a new social trend or a strange part of a famously sad music video. It's some kind of nostalgia but also some kind of disgust.
